For some reason window unit air conditioners aren't built with a fill valve.(why?) So you have a impeccably good A/C, compressor is good, addict is fine, everything works . . . except with 8 years she's despondent on refrigerant. For most folks, the only option is to toss the full thing made known and buy new A/C because there's no way to make more refrigerant in!? WHAT A WASTE!In steps this product, this is a retrofit valve with the intention of fits on 1/2" and 5/8" copper tubing.**unless you're a certified technician, you shouldn't be messing with this. Keep for here's what I did on mine**Step 1. Locate the despondent pressure side of the system and find a apposite place to install the valve.Step 2. Shrubbery the copper sterile with a brillo pad and at that time tint it off with a damp ragStep 3. by the supplied enchantment wrench, tense up not effective the 3 further than apparatus screwsStep 4. Tense up the center piercing valve in until it "bottoms made known"Step 5. Connect the blue, "despondent pressure hose," turn on the air-conditioner and open this retrofit valve (1/2 turn) Verify with the intention of your A/C unit is in fact despondent on refrigerant.Step 6. Connect the yellow hose to the canister of refrigerantStep 7. Accurate the retrofit valve and loosen the blue hose connection slightly.Step 8. Open up the canister and purge the gauges by venting a little refrigerant made known the loosened connection. (With systems this tiny, with the intention of air in the line will yield all sorts of problems.)Step 9. Re-tense up the blue hose and open the retrofit valveStep 10. Watching the despondent pressure reading, initiation feeding new refrigerant into the systemStep 11. Once finished, push to the needle valve on the A/C and cap the decent (provided with this product)With the intention of's not 100% step-by-step, keep for it gives you a feel for what's involved in resurrecting an old A/C. The reason I display 4 stars instead of 5 is because the valve's casting was a bit approximate / crude. The sealing face at the top of the threads wasn't polished or machined nicely at all. It still worked and sealed up well enough to the hose, keep for still . . . for this fee, I expected nicer machining. By and large I'm happy, it all set well, and it seems to work fine.
